Meet Dr. Swati Gupta
The Breastfeeding Bond was an idea that took birth when we realized that mothers did not have much professional guidance when it came to something so essential as feeding a baby. Surprising isn’t it?
Sometimes the well-meant advice and experience of elders and fellow mothers do not help in certain challenges while feeding a baby. So, what can a new, lactating mother do in such a situation?
About Dr. Swati Gupta
Dr. Swati Gupta completed her MBBS from Mysore Medical College, Mysore, Karnataka. Thereafter she did her training in Paediatrics (DCH) at GSVM Medical College, Kanpur. Dr.Swati commenced her independent practice as a consultant paediatrian at Nishtha Child Care Clinic, Lucknow in the year 2004. It was during this time that she realized that there were many myths about breastfeeding prevalent in Indian society. Most mothers would not even know that they could resolve a lot of issues that they faced with the right advice.
Being a mother herself, Dr. Swati realized that she had become the first point of contact for lactation-related queries from a new generation of young working mothers. Even when they brought the child for vaccination, they would often share their concerns about breastfeeding.
There was a serious lack of available services for new moms needing support for breastfeeding. This is when she knew that she had to step into this field and bridge the gap. She began dedicating her efforts to strengthening the bond between the mother and the newborn. These included courses in breast feeding counselling conducted by Breast feeding Promotion Network of India and BeginEn as well as the International board certified lactation consultant certificate exam conducted by IBLCE (International board of lactation consultant examiners), USA.
IBCLC is a rigorous exam conducted worldwide and the certication (IBCLC) is accepted globally. As an international board-certified lactation consultant, she is trained in a wide range of breastfeeding situations, providing active support for establishing and sustaining appropriate breastfeeding practices. She is knowledgeable, competent and qualified to assist families in difficult situations, in a caring manner.
Today, Nishtha Child Care Clinic is the go-to place for mothers and their newborns. We have come a long way. We are happy that we have been able to make a difference in their lives and raise awareness about this.
